The pilot of a World War II-era plane who was killed in a crash at Camarillo Airport last weekend has been identified as a Thousand Oaks man, officials said Wednesday.

John McKittrick, 42, was practicing take-offs and landings about 8 a.m. Sunday when his P-51D Mustang flipped over and crashed, said Ian Gregor, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. It probably will be several months before an exact cause is determined, Gregor said.
