* Chicago 5, at Cleveland 1: After Jim Thome led off the fourth inning with a single, Paul Konerko battled Jake Westbrook in an 11-pitch at-bat -- fouling off five pitches with two strikes -- before hitting a home run to give the White Sox a 3-0 lead. Rob Mackowiak then doubled and scored on Jermaine Dye’s double, giving the White Sox a 4-0 lead.

* Kansas City 6, at Boston 5: Billy Butler doubled in the go-ahead run during a four-run fifth inning. After managing only one hit in the first three innings, the Royals scored twice in the fourth, then went ahead 6-4 in the fifth. The Royals are in the Central Division cellar but are 12-7 in their last 19 games after winning the series over the Red Sox.

* Detroit 3, at Minnesota 2: Magglio Ordonez homered and drove in all three runs against Johan Santana, ending his five-start winning streak. Santana (11-7) threw a season-high 118 pitches after persuading Manager Ron Gardenhire to let him finish the eighth inning, but the Twins again had problems on offense -- leaving 14 men on base.

* at New York 6, Toronto 1: Alex Rodriguez hit a go-ahead double in the seventh inning and the Yankees (48-44) moved a season-high four games above .500.

* at Seattle 6, Baltimore 5: Adrian Beltre’s bases-loaded walk with two out in the eighth inning scored Jose Vidro with the go-ahead run. Beltre worked the count to 3-2 against reliever Chad Bradford, then fouled off two pitches before Bradford missed outside to force in Vidro.

* at Oakland 6, Texas 0: Lenny DiNardo limited the Rangers to three hits -- two doubles and a bunt single -- in seven innings as the Athletics ended a nine-game losing streak.

* at Tampa Bay 7, Angels 2: Bartolo Colon has lost five of six decisions since a 5-0 start.
