Third-seeded Nebraska used the strong pitching of junior right-hander Johnny Dorn and a potent offense to defeat second-seeded UC Riverside, 11-1, Sunday in an elimination game at an NCAA Division I regional at Winkles Field in Tempe, Ariz.

Dorn, who entered the game with a 5.23 earned-run average, limited the Highlanders (38-21) to five hits and struck out 12.

He got out of a jam in the first inning. After walking the first two batters, he struck out Jaime Pedroza and Mark Samuelson and got Aaron Wible to foul out to the catcher.

Two errors and a hit batter loaded the bases for Craig Corriston, who lined a two-run single to center. The third run scored when an infield pop fell for a hit, making the score 7-1.

In that game, Fresno State pitcher Tanner Scheppers was rushed to a hospital after a line drive struck him above the eye.

He was lying still on the ground for nearly 10 minutes after being struck by a ball hit by Minnesota’s Kyle Baran in the fourth inning.

Team officials said Scheppers was alert and moving after he was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital’s trauma unit.

Fullerton beat the Bulldogs, 6-4, late Saturday night in a winner’s bracket game. The Titans scored four times in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. Matt Wallach and Corey Jones each drove in one, and Evan McArthur drove in two with a double.

Fresno State brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth when Ozzie Lewis’ double drove in Loren Story, but closer Adam Jorgenson struck out Tommy Mendonca to end it.
