The series of “Unfortunate Events” began all over again Tuesday. For the first time, HarperCollins began releasing the adventures of the three ill-fated Baudelaire orphans in paperback -- hoping to reach a new generation of children (and their parents) who weren’t old enough to read the books when they began appearing in 1997.

The 13 installments of “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” written by Daniel Handler under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket, have sold 55 million copies around the world, according to HarperCollins. The final book in the series, “The End,” was released in October.

The new paperback editions include bonus material under the banner “The Cornucopian Cavalcade,” which includes the comic-book story of another pair of siblings, “The Spoily Brats,” and a tongue-in-cheek advice column by Lemony Snicket.
