* Texas Tech update: The Red Raiders use a spread offense that’s producing a nation-leading 549.5 yards a game. Quarterback Graham Harrell leads the nation with 4,412 yards passing and 38 touchdowns, and receiver Michael Crabtree leads the nation with 1,512 yards receiving, 10.4 receptions per game and 18 touchdowns. The Red Raiders are giving up only 22.3 points a game but have struggled against top-flight offenses, giving up 90 points combined against Oklahoma State and Missouri.

* Texas update: The Longhorns have won four consecutive games but have needed fourth-quarter comebacks the last two weeks. Running back Jamaal Charles averages 119 yards a game but has averaged 235 in the last two. The Longhorns are 15th in the nation in total offense with 463.6 yards a game but have been vulnerable against passing teams, giving up 247.8 yards a game through the air, which is 87th in the nation.

* Story line: Texas Tech is looking to end a four-game losing streak against Texas in this heated in-state rivalry. The Longhorns still have an outside shot at getting to the Big 12 title game, but they’ll need help and they can’t lose another game.

* The pick: Texas Tech. The high-powered Red Raiders can take advantage of a Longhorns defense that’s given up 1,134 yards the last two weeks.
