Tebow has broken right hand

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow broke his right, non-throwing hand Saturday night against Florida State and will be in a cast for at least two weeks.

The Gators said Tebow suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right hand during a five-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the third quarter against the Seminoles.

X-rays taken after Florida’s 45-12 victory revealed the severity of the injury.

Sonny Lubick, the winningest coach in Colorado State history, began negotiating his departure as Rams football coach on Saturday, according to a published report.

The Denver Post said Lubick began telephone negotiations with Athletic Director Paul Kowalczyk. The school declined to confirm or deny the report.

Lubick is 108-74 with the Rams, has led them to nine bowl games and has won or tied for six conference championships.

The next Nebraska coach doesn’t necessarily have to have ties to the school, but Tom Osborne says the Cornhuskers’ next leader must have an understanding of the program’s culture and history.

Somebody such as former Nebraska quarterback and Buffalo Coach Turner Gill would qualify.

Buffalo has given permission to Osborne, Nebraska’s interim athletic director, to speak with Gill, the Buffalo News reported.

One of the criticisms of Bill Callahan, who was fired Saturday, was that he didn’t understand or appreciate the fans’ passion and high expectations. Both were inflated during Osborne’s coaching career, a 25-year period in which Nebraska averaged 10 wins a season and won three national titles.
