The Clippers on Sunday traded the draft rights to second-round pick Jared Jordan to the New York Knicks in a move expected to give the team the flexibility to acquire a veteran point guard.

They will now aggressively target Knicks guard Dan Dickaua league source said. Dickau, acquired by the Knicks this off-season in a five-player trade involving Zach Randolph, is expected to be waived today by New York.

“We are having conversations with the Knicks,” said Mark Bartelstein, Dickau’s agent. “We are hoping to have something resolved.”

Jordan was the 45th overall selection in this year’s draft. He led the nation in assists for two consecutive seasons at Marist College, tallying 286 and averaging 8.7 per game last season.

The Clippers liked Jordan’s skills but are aiming for a point guard who can immediately contribute to the team.

They secured veteran point guard Brevin Knight in a deal this off-season to back up starter Sam Cassell, who will turn 38 next month.

Landing Dickau will give Coach Mike Dunleavy, known for cultivating point guards, additional options at the position.

Dickau, a Gonzaga product, played in 50 games and averaged 3.3 points in 8.9 minutes for the Portland Trail Blazers last season.

He had career highs of 13.2 points and 5.2 assists per game for New Orleans during the 2004-05 season.
