KCBS Channel 2 will air the New England Patriots-Indianapolis Colts game Sunday afternoon as the second half of a broadcast doubleheader that will kick off at 10 a.m. with the San Diego Chargers’ away game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Some local fans had worried that KCBS would opt for the Oakland Raiders’ home game against the Houston Texans, which kicks off at 1:15 p.m., the same time as the Patriots-Colts.

Earlier this month, KCBS passed on broadcasting a game between the then-undefeated Dallas Cowboys and the Patriots, in favor of a game featuring the Chargers and Raiders. Though the Chargers-Raiders game drew one of KCBS’ strongest ratings in three years, the Cowboys-Patriots game proved to be one of the highest-rated NFL games in the last decade.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has agreed to a six-year, $67-million deal that will be announced today, said a person familiar with the deal who requested anonymity.

The contract, which will become effective this week and provides salary cap relief for Dallas, includes $30 million in guaranteed money.

Romo is in his fourth year in the NFL but has started only 17 games. The Cowboys have won 12 of those starts.

Romo had hoped to get a new deal over the summer. Team owner Jerry Jones opted to let him go into his first year as a starter without a deal to make sure he was worth the commitment.

New York Jets Coach Eric Mangini said that Kellen Clemens is the team’s new starting quarterback, replacing Chad Pennington.

“Coach made it clear that I’m not the villain here,” Pennington said. “And I’m not the only one to blame for the lack of our success or our problems, but he did feel like Kellen deserved a chance.”

Mangini’s announcement wasn’t a huge surprise. It’s a move fans and media have been suggesting for weeks as the Jets have struggled to a 1-7 start.

Pennington, in his eighth season, has failed to move the offense effectively as the Jets have lost five straight and rank 30th in offense; only Buffalo and San Francisco are worse.

Clemens, in his second season, replaced an ineffective Pennington late Sunday in the Jets’ 13-3 loss to Buffalo.

Although linebacker Brian Urlacher told foxsports.com an arthritic back is limiting his performance, Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith insisted the team does not “play players that are injured.”

Smith dismissed the notion that Urlacher’s inconsistency is the result of his pain.

Washington Redskins cornerback Carlos Rogers is out for the year because of torn ligaments in his right knee.

Rogers was injured in the first quarter of the Redskins’ 52-7 loss to the New England Patriots. An MRI exam Monday revealed the torn ligaments. He will have surgery in about two weeks and begin rehabilitation with the possible goal of returning for next year’s training camp.
