* Milwaukee 9, at Houston 1: Johnny Estrada hit his second grand slam of the season against the Astros, and the Brewers overcame an injury to Ben Sheets to move into first place in the Central Division. Claudio Vargas (11-4) pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Sheets, who left because of tightness in his left hamstring after giving up a run in the first.
* Cincinnati 5, at Chicago 2: Aaron Harang and the Reds knocked the Cubs out of first in the Central. Harang (16-4) gave up six hits and two runs in seven innings to beat Carlos Zambrano for the third time this season.
* at Arizona 5, San Francisco 0: Micah Owings threw a two-hitter for the Diamondbacks, who stayed a game ahead of the Padres in the West.
* at San Diego 5, Pittsburgh 3: Khalil Greene had three hits, reached base five times and drove in two runs for the Padres.
* at Washington 9, New York 8: John Maine squandered leads of 4-0 and 7-3 as the Mets lost their fifth in a row. Ronnie Belliard hit a three-run home run for the Nationals.
* at Atlanta 4, Florida 3: The Braves scored all their runs on two-out singles and used seven pitchers to beat the Marlins.
* Philadelphia 7, at St. Louis 4 (14 innings): Pinch-hitter Rod Barajas singled home the tiebreaking run.
* at Colorado 3-9, Dodgers 1-8: The Rockies tied the Dodgers for third in the West with the doubleheader sweep.
