Kyle Wright threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns, Graig Cooper scored twice and host Miami stymied No. 20 Texas A&M;’s high-powered offense in a 34-17 victory Thursday night.

The win was only Miami’s second in its last nine games against a ranked opponent dating to the end of the 2005 season.

The Hurricanes (3-1) held the Aggies (3-1) to 38 yards in the first half in taking a 24-0 lead.

Notre Dame might release Demetrius Jones from his scholarship, after all, as long as the sophomore quarterback transfers to a school that is not on the Irish football schedule.

Jones, who started the season opener, quit the team last week and told reporters he had enrolled at Northern Illinois.

Notre Dame Athletic Director Kevin White said in a statement Thursday that the university has offered to help Jones find an acceptable school.

West Virginia reinstated cornerback Ellis Lankster and linebacker J.T. Thomas, who were arrested last month for receiving stolen property, after the two agreed to enter a pretrial diversion program. Coach Rich Rodriguez said both players would be in uniform Saturday but won’t start.
