Plane crashes near airport
A single-engine aircraft attempting to land at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank overshot the runway and crashed west of the airport, slightly injuring the pilot and two passengers, authorities said Friday.
The Cessna 172 aircraft went down in the 7500 block of Clybourn Avenue shortly before 7 p.m., according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
Witnesses said the plane struck power lines, flipped over and struck a parked car.
“The plane was wobbling as it came at us,” said Rob Meyer of Temecula, who was doing construction work on a hangar at the time of the crash. “It almost hit my truck. You could see the power lines light up when the plane hit them.”
The three occupants -- two men and a woman -- walked away from the overturned Cessna, Meyer said, adding that one of the men was bleeding badly from his arm.
Unidentified people applied a makeshift bandage to his wounds and used a belt as a tourniquet, he said.
Burbank police said no structures were hit on the ground.
