Cessna rolls off runway; none hurt

Three people aboard a small plane that rolled off the end of a runway at Santa Monica Airport on Sunday were not hurt, officials said.

The four-seat, single-engine Cessna apparently had brake problems on the runway about 6:15 p.m., causing it to drop off the edge, go over vegetation growing on the slope below and onto an access road that goes around the airport, said Chief Carl Bjerke of the Santa Monica Fire Department.

Although the plane was damaged, the people aboard were unhurt, he said.

The runway was closed for less than 20 minutes.
