Rays lose to Royals, fall into tie for first
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Gil Meche pitched seven scoreless innings and John Buck drove in two runs as the Kansas City Royals beat Tampa Bay, 4-2, Thursday night to extend the Rays’ road losing streak to seven games and drop them into a virtual tie with Boston for first in the AL East.
Kansas City appeared well on its way to ending a four-game home losing streak after taking a 4-0 lead into the eighth inning. Then it started raining and things got interesting, as the Rays scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth before Joakim Soria closed out his 27th save.
