Kansas City ends 12-game skid, 4-2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- David DeJesus homered and Kyle Davies pitched five strong innings Saturday night to spark Kansas City to a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
The Royals had lost 12 in a row.
Davies (1-0) gave up one run on five hits and became Kansas City’s first winning pitcher since Zack Greinke on May 18. The Royals, who started the game with the fewest runs, sacrifice flies, runs batted in and walks in the major leagues, beat reigning Cy Young winner C.C. Sabathia.
DeJesus hit a solo home run in the third inning and an RBI double in a three-run sixth off Sabathia. The home run was the first to actually go over the fence for Kansas City in 79 innings, since the eighth inning of its 11-8 loss at Boston on May 22. Mark Teahen had an inside-the-park homer against Minnesota on May 27.
Sabathia (3-7) went eight innings, giving up four runs and eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Joakim Soria pitched two shaky innings for his 12th save in 12 opportunities. Soria gave up three hits and a run, with one walk and one wild pitch.
