Stanford takes title, 56-35
SAN JOSE -- Candice Wiggins led No. 4-ranked Stanford past No. 8 California, 56-35, Monday night for the Pacific 10 Conference tournament title and an automatic NCAA berth.
Wiggins produced her own 13-0 run in the first half and finished with 30 points.
The three-time Pac-10 player of the year made 12 of 23 shots, including five three-pointers, and had three steals and four rebounds for the Cardinal (30-3).
“There was so much at stake and so much going on and I wanted to play a great game,” said Wiggins, a senior ending her conference career. “This is an emotional game and this was it for me.”
Devanei Hampton struggled for Cal (26-6), going two for 15 with only five points.
