John Brady was hired as the new coach at Arkansas State on Wednesday, less than six weeks after being fired by Louisiana State.

Brady replaces Dickey Nutt, who stepped down Feb. 19.

Brady, 53, was dismissed after opening the season 8-13 -- only two seasons after leading the Tigers to the Final Four. He was 192-139 in 11 seasons at LSU. He was 89-77 in six years at Samford.

Former Arkansas coach Nolan Richardson had expressed interest in the Arkansas State job and visited the school but last week said he was no longer a candidate.

Seton Hall Coach Bobby Gonzalez was suspended by the university for next season’s first Big East Conference game for criticizing the officiating after a loss to Rutgers in the regular-season finale.

Athletic Director Joe Quinlan called Gonzalez’s conduct March 9 “unacceptable” and “not representative” of Seton Hall sports. The school said he failed to comply with university and conference policies.

New Jersey state Sen. Robert Singer, R-Ocean, proposed non-binding legislation asking the NCAA to investigate the Feb. 11 Rutgers-Tennessee game won by the Lady Vols, 59-58, amid a dispute over whether the clock paused, allowing Nicky Anosike to be fouled and make two game-winning free throws with two-tenths of a second left.

Singer said he understands it’s unlikely the NCAA would reverse the outcome but hopes his request can lead to standard clock rules for all games.

Connecticut said it self-reported a secondary violation of NCAA rules involving the recruiting of Maya Moore, which occurred in 2005 when the basketball office arranged a tour of ESPN for the player.
