Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is finding it tough to duplicate last season’s success when he won the Heisman Trophy, while Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford and Texas’ Colt McCoy stepped up with solid games. A look at their efforts and those of other Heisman hopefuls:
SAM BRADFORD, sophomore quarterback, Oklahoma
Texas Christian’s secondary did not put up much of a battle against Bradford, who made another strong statement in a blowout victory for the Sooners. Stats: 19 of 33 passing for 408 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
COLT McCOY, junior quarterback, Texas
McCoy has been impressive all season and was nearly unstoppable in the Longhorns’ easy win over Arkansas. Stats: 17 of 19 passing for 185 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions; nine carries for 84 yards rushing, two touchdowns.
TIM TEBOW, junior quarterback, Florida
The Gators may have suffered a disappointing home loss to Mississippi, but Tebow did everything he could to win the game. Stats: 24 of 38 passing for 319 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions; 15 carries for seven yards rushing, two touchdowns.
JAVON RINGER, senior running back, Michigan State
Indiana’s aggressive run defense made things difficult for Ringer, but he still was a force in the Spartans’ 42-29 victory. Stats: 44 carries for 198 yards and one touchdown; two catches for 20 yards.
MARK SANCHEZ, junior quarterback, USC
Played Thursday. Stats: 18 for 29 passing for 227 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the 27-21 loss to Oregon State.
CHASE DANIEL, senior quarterback, Missouri
Idle.
