Could this be the first Twitter baby?
Twitter Chief Executive Evan Williams and his wife, Sara, just had their first baby, an event shared with more than 16,000 of her Twitter followers from the time her water broke to baby’s first diaper.
The popular micro-blogging website is used to send out messages, each with a maximum of 140 characters -- about the length of a major contraction.
Through it all, she kept up the tweeting. It started Monday at 8:46 p.m. when she messaged: “Dear Twitter, My water broke. It wasn’t like Charlotte in Sex and the City. Now, timing contractions on an iPhone app.”
Nearly two hours later she tweeted, “The Contraction Tracker was fun until the contractions got painful.”
Next came a tweet about being admitted to “the second-to-last room” in the hospital. Then came a plaintive, “Epidural, yes please.”
At 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, her last tweet before giving birth, she messaged: “The heartbeat monitor soothes the silence of a room that will shortly be anything but silent.”
Then the Williamses went into Twitter silence. Several hours later, at 3:45 p.m., came a tweet that Evan was “changing the first diaper.”
Not exactly a private moment. But at least it probably got Evan’s mind off Twitter’s meltdown last week, which was caused by a hacker attack.
As for the healthy, 8-pound baby boy, perhaps his first tweet will be, “Waaaaaaaaaaa!” (continue for 140 characters).
Sort of like when Paula Abdul tweeted to the world that she was off “American Idol.”
