Ware’s free throws lift Long Beach in OT

Casper Ware’s two free throws with 13.4 seconds left in the second overtime gave Long Beach State an 81-80 victory over visiting Pacific in a Big West Conference game Saturday.

Michael Kirby’s last-second shot went off the back of the rim and Stephan Gilling rebounded to secure the victory.

The 49ers (12-10, 6-4) moved into first place in the conference, half a game ahead of Cal State Fullerton and one game over idle Cal State Northridge. It marked only the fourth time in the last 13 games that Long Beach State has defeated Pacific (12-9, 5-5).

Ware missed a 15-footer with one second left in the first overtime forcing, a second extra period. Long Beach State had a chance to win in regulation but Gilling misfired on a three-point shot at the buzzer.

UC Santa Barbara 65, UC Irvine 56 -- Chris Devine had 19 points with five rebounds to lead the Gauchos (9-13, 3-7) over the host Anteaters (8-14, 5-5) in a Big West game.

Devine scored six consecutive baskets in the final 3:20 to put the game away. His final basket was a 12-footer to beat the shot clock with 32.6 seconds left in the game.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 75, Cal State Fullerton 72 -- Lorenzo Keeler scored a career-high 29 points as the Mustangs (6-14, 3-7) rallied to beat the host Titans (12-11, 6-5) in a Big West game.

Josh Akognon scored 29 points for Fullerton, whose four-game winning streak ended.

UC Riverside 58, UC Davis, 53 -- Brandon Dowdy and Javon Borum led a balanced attack with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the host Highlanders (13-9, 5-5) held off the Aggies (10-13, 5-5) in a Big West game. Dowdy made two big shots down the stretch, a three-pointer that gave Riverside a 52-48 lead with 1:42 to play, and a jumper in the lane that made it 54-50 with 57.5 seconds left.

Pepperdine 58, Loyola Marymount 43 -- Ryan Holmes scored 18 points to pace the visiting Waves (6-18, 3-5) over the Lions (1-23, 0-8) in a West Coast Conference game.
