Oregon gets first Pac-10 win after 14 losses

Michael Dunigan scored 14 points for Oregon and the Ducks ended a 14-game losing streak with a 68-60 victory against reeling Stanford on Saturday at Eugene, Ore.

Oregon got its first Pacific 10 Conference win of the season and its first victory overall since beating Long Beach State on Dec. 29. The Ducks are 7-20 overall, 1-14 in the Pac-10.

LeKendric Longmire scored 11 and Joevan Catron had 10 points for the Ducks, who came close to being only the second team to go 0-15 in Pac-10 play since the conference went to an 18-game schedule in 1978-79.

Landry Fields scored 19, Lawrence Hill had 18 and Anthony Goods scored 16 for Stanford (15-10, 4-10), which has lost seven of nine since beating Oregon, 77-55, Jan. 22.

Freshman Matt Humphrey gave the Ducks the lead for good with a three-pointer from the right corner at the 2:15 mark to make it 59-56.

Oregon’s 29-28 halftime lead was its first in seven games.

Oregon State 65, California 54: Calvin Haynes scored 19 points, including a key three-pointer and a layup with less than four minutes to go, and the Beavers defeated the Golden Bears at Corvallis, Ore.

The victory ended a four-game winning streak for Cal (20-7, 9-5), which is seeking its first NCAA tournament berth in three seasons.

Oregon State (13-13, 7-8) won its third straight Pac-10 game and swept the season series against Cal for the first time since the 1994-95 season.

The Bears led by as many as 12 points early in the second half, but the Beavers went ahead midway through the half on Haynes’ jumper.

Theo Robertson scored 14 points for California.
