Chatsworth defeats Reseda Cleveland, 4-3

Chatsworth 4, Reseda Cleveland 3

Top contributors: Andrew Klausmeier of Chatsworth had a two-run single and threw six-plus innings, striking out six and giving up seven hits. Ryan Cooperstone picked up the save and had a run-scoring single. John Wilson (8-1) suffered his first defeat, giving up six hits.

The scoop: Shortstop Kasey Toven twice made marvelous defensive plays to prevent the potential tying run from scoring. In the sixth inning, G. Allen tried to score from first on a double, but Toven made a perfect relay throw to catcher Carlos Escobar Jr., who tagged out Allen. In the seventh, with the tying run on second, Toven caught a line drive by Jeremy Stearn for the game’s final out.

Why it matters: Chatsworth pulled into a tie for first place in the West Valley League with the Cavaliers, but they now own the tiebreaker edge by virtue of two wins in three games over Cleveland, so if the Chancellors win their final two league games, they’ll be seeded No. 1 for the City Section Division I playoffs.
