A fire that erupted overnight Thursday in steep canyons along Ortega Highway in southern Orange County has been fully contained and the highway reopened.

The blaze erupted about midnight in the Cleveland National Forest about 12 miles east of San Juan Capistrano and charred about 25 acres, said Marty Driscoll, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority. The fire never threatened homes, he said.

Aircraft and about 160 firefighters were used to fight the blaze. One firefighter was injured, falling and breaking her leg, Driscoll said. She was taken to a hospital and was reported in good condition, he said.

Ortega Highway had been closed between Antonio Parkway in Orange County and Lake Elsinore in Riverside County. It was reopened about 6 p.m. Friday.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
