Philadelphia 6, at Washington 5: Jayson Werth and Pedro Feliz hit consecutive homers in the eighth inning and Ryan Madson pitched the ninth in place of struggling closer Brad Lidge, earning his sixth save.

at Houston 2, Atlanta 1: Miguel Tejada’s two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning led the Astros past the Braves.

Chicago 8, at Pittsburgh 5: Carlos Zambrano won for the first time since July 22 by limiting the Pirates to two runs over six innings, and the Cubs finished off a three-game sweep. Pittsburgh has lost 12 of 13.
