Tennessee Coach Lane Kiffin says he will stick with fifth-year senior Jonathan Crompton as his starting quarterback when the Volunteers travel to Florida on Saturday.

Crompton had three passes intercepted in a 19-15 loss to UCLA on Saturday and was involved in a fumbled snap that was recovered by the Bruins. He completed 13 of 26 passes for 93 yards.

Kiffin said Monday the Volunteers (1-1) did a bad job protecting Crompton and blamed the coaching staff for poor play-calling. Crompton won the starting job after competing with backup Nick Stephens during spring and fall practices. The two shared the starting role with last season.

San Jose makes change at QB

San Jose State Coach Dick Tomey selected junior Jordan LaSecla as his starting quarterback for Saturday’s game at Stanford.

LaSecla took over for starter Kyle Reed at the end of the first quarter in the Spartans’ 24-14 loss to Utah on Saturday. He completed 21 of 33 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown.

Wisconsin still dealing with flu

Wisconsin’s not quite over its flu outbreak.

Badgers Coach Bret Bielema said at his weekly news conference that after more than 40 players were sick over the course of last week, two new players showed flu symptoms on Sunday.

“The flu, I think, is through us. But on the same account, we had two new guys pop up,” he said.

“We’re just kind of going off what the medical staff and trainers have told us [how] to handle it when it comes up.”

That includes sending the players home to get as much rest as they can.

Wisconsin is 2-0 and preparing to play Football Championship Subdivision opponent Wofford this Saturday after hanging on to beat Fresno State, 34-31, in double overtime despite the illness that had several players needing IV fluids before the game even started.
