Cal receiver Boateng to miss four to six weeks

California will head into the toughest stretch of its schedule missing one of its key offensive players.

Wide receiver Nyan Boateng is expected to miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken right foot Monday.

The No. 6-ranked Golden Bears open Pacific 10 Conference play Saturday at Oregon and then play host to No. 12 USC next week. After a week off, the Golden Bears play UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

Boateng was injured in the first half of last Saturday’s 35-21 victory at Minnesota while blocking on a run by Jahvid Best. Boateng played the rest of the half before doctors determined the injury.

Florida flu concern

Top-ranked Florida kept six more players out of practice Tuesday because they had flu-like symptoms.

Gators Coach Urban Meyer said starting linebacker A.J. Jones was among those feeling ill. No player has had a confirmed case of H1N1 virus, or swine flu, but Meyer has expressed concern that the virus could ravage the defending national champions.

Clausen hurting

Notre Dame, already without its most prolific pass receiver, could face Purdue on Saturday with its quarterback and leading rusher both hobbled.

Quarterback Jimmy Clausen, the junior from Westlake Village Oaks Christian High who is second in the nation in pass efficiency with a rating of 188.55, did not practice Tuesday because of turf toe on his right foot, Coach Charlie Weis said. Tailback Armando Allen Jr., who has rushed for 100 yards in consecutive games, also did not practice because of a sprained right ankle.
