LeBron James runs away with MVP award

LeBron James won his second consecutive NBA most-valuable-player award Sunday, dominating the voting just as he dominated on court all season.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star received 116 of 123 first-place votes, winning in a landslide over Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant. Durant was picked first on four ballots and Orlando center Dwight Howard, who finished fourth, received the other three first-place votes.

Lakers star Kobe Bryant had no first-place votes and finished third.

A nationwide panel of sportswriters and broadcasters voted, and this year one ballot was cast by fans in an online vote. Players were awarded 10 points for first, seven points for second, five for third, three for fourth and one for fifth.

James finished with 1,205 points, nearly twice as many as Durant (609).

Denver Nuggets Coach George Karl has another blood clot in his right leg as he recovers from radiation and chemotherapy treatment for throat and neck cancer.

Karl’s partner, Kim Van Deraa, wrote on her blog that the 58-year-old coach was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon because of the clot.

Ai Miyazato wins title as Ochoa bows out

Ai Miyazato shot a six-under-par 67 to win the Tres Marias Championship at Morelia, Mexico, for her third title on the LPGA Tour this season.

The Japanese star finished with a 19-under 273 for the tournament, one better than Stacy Lewis (66) and two in front of Michelle Wie (68).

Miyazato shared the spotlight with Lorena Ochoa, who played her final round before she steps into retirement to raise a family and focus on her charity foundation. Ochoa shot a 71 and finished at 280.

Ryo Ishikawa shot a 12-under 58 — the lowest score ever on a major tour — to win the Crowns for his seventh Japan Tour title.

Ishikawa, 18, tapped in for par on the par-four 18th after his 15-foot birdie try slid inches by the cup. He had 12 birdies in his bogey-free round on the 6,545-yard Nagoya Golf Club course at Togo.

David Eger won the inaugural Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic at Saucier for his first Champions Tour title since 2005, closing with a three-under 69 in rainy, windy conditions for a one-stroke victory.

Tommy Armour III shot a 67 and finished second. He three-putted from 60 feet for a bogey on the par-three 17th, and finished with a par.

Rafael Nadal beats David Ferrer in Rome Masters

Rafael Nadal won his fifth Rome Masters title in six years, withstanding two rain delays to beat fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, 7-5, 6-2.

Justine Henin won her first title since coming out of retirement, defeating Samantha Stosur, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, in the final of the Porsche Grand Prix at Stuttgart, Germany.

Todd Rogers, Phil Dalhausser win in Santa Barbara

Olympic beach volleyball champions Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser won the AVP Nivea Tour’s Santa Barbara Open for the third straight time, beating Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, 21-13, 21-14.

Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis won the women’s title after top-seeded Misty May-Treanor and Nicole Branagh were knocked out in the semifinals.
