Michael Vick expected to start for Eagles

Share

Barring any setbacks, Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick, who sat out the last three games because of cartilage damage in his rib cage, is expected back and will start against the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 7, Eagles Coach Andy Reid said.

In fact, Reid expects the Eagles to be as healthy as they possibly can be when they return from the bye week.

“I’m feeling better. I think I’ll be fine,” Vick said after Sunday’s 37-19 loss to Tennessee. Kevin Kolb filled in for Vick and was 2-1, beating San Francisco and Atlanta before the loss to the Titans.

“From the penalty he got Sunday, he’s not afraid of contact,” Reid said half-jokingly about Vick, who was called for getting in the way of a referee on the sideline during a return in Sunday’s loss. “He’s improving. He’s getting healthier. I’m thinking he’ll be ready for the Colts. If he isn’t, I have faith in Kevin Kolb. The entire team has faith in Kevin. But it looks like [Vick] is on track to return.”

Rams’ Jackson has surgery on broken finger

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson set the franchise rushing record over the weekend, despite playing with a broken finger.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Jackson had surgery on his left ring finger Monday. The Rams said two pins were put into the finger, and his status for this Sunday’s home game against Carolina was unknown.

Spagnuolo says Jackson broke the finger during Sunday’s loss at Tampa Bay, a game in which he broke Eric Dickerson’s all-time Rams rushing record. The coach says Jackson simply kept playing.

“He didn’t think it was a big deal,” Spagnuolo said. “He kept playing…. He’s going to be sore. Hopefully, he’ll be able to play this week. We’ll know more after he gets through it.”

Jackson has topped the 100-yard mark in each of the last three games, and his 617 rushing yards rank fourth in the NFL and second in the NFC behind Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson (684). In his six seasons with the Rams, Jackson has 7,324 yards.

Bush to test leg this week

Reggie Bush expressed optimism that he would be able to practice this week on his healing right leg and possibly play on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Saints running back, who has sat out five games since breaking his right fibula in Week 2, says team doctors have told him he has healed enough to test his leg at full speed.

Bush said his plan was to try to do that when the Saints return to practice Wednesday.

“I expect to go out there and see what I can do,” Bush said. “I don’t know if I can practice, if I’m going to be 100%. I’m just going to go out there and give it my best shot. I feel good, but I haven’t gone out there.”

Jets’ Revis says he’s ready

Darrelle Revis is ready to shut down receivers — and questions about his balky left hamstring.

The New York Jets’ All-Pro cornerback declared himself healthy after using the off-week break to rehabilitate it at the team’s facility.

“It felt great today,” Revis said after a light practice. “Now I can settle in and just play football. I’m 100%.”

He said he’ll be able to play unimpeded in the Jets’ next game at home against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Tampa Bay tight end Jerramy Stevens has been released by the team after being arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

The Buccaneers made the move Monday, two days after Tampa police said the 30-year-old player was pulled over in his pickup truck for loud music and an officer smelled marijuana inside the vehicle.
