Michigan’s Denard Robinson expected to practice, play Saturday

Michigan Coach Rich Rodriguez expects star quarterback Denard Robinson to be ready for practice this week when the 19th-ranked Wolverines begin preparations for Saturday’s Big Ten opener at Indiana.

Robinson injured his knee during Saturday’s 65-21 victory over Bowling Green.

“Denard should be fine. He’s got a bruise,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez added that the sophomore should be ready for Tuesday’s practice.

Robinson was hurt on the first play of Michigan’s third offensive series when he was tackled after a 47-yard run. He had already run for a pair of touchdowns on the Wolverines’ first two possessions.

After being evaluated on the sideline and again at halftime, Robinson was cleared to return. Michigan, however, already had a big lead and Rodriguez elected to keep him on the sideline as Michigan rolled to victory.

Robinson had completed each of his four passes for 60 yards and ran for 129 yards and two touchdowns on five carries before exiting Saturday’s contest.

Florida running back Jeff Demps is wearing a boot for a sprained left foot, but Gators Coach Urban Meyer expects him to be ready to play Saturday against top-ranked Alabama.

Demps hurt his foot Sept. 18 at Tennessee when one of Florida’s offensive linemen stepped on it.

He played Saturday against Kentucky but carried the ball only eight times. He had his foot X-rayed afterward.

Florida wide receiver Chris Rainey could have a stalking charge against him dropped if he stays out of trouble for the next six months.

As a condition of the deferred prosecution, he has to stay out of trouble for six months, complete 10 hours of community service and attend counseling. If Rainey meets the conditions and does not get into legal trouble in the next six months, the charge will be dismissed.

Rainey was arrested Sept. 14 on an aggravated stalking charge for allegedly sending a woman he had dated sporadically threatening text messages.
