‘Bling Ring’s’ Sofia Coppola to be honored at Crystal + Lucy Awards

Oscar-winning writer-director Sofia Coppola, whose latest film “The Bling Ring” screened at the Cannes and opens June 14 stateside, is this year’s winner of the Crystal + Lucy Awards’ Dorothy Arzner Directors Award.

The award is named after the pioneering Hollywood director of several studio films, including Katharine Hepburn’s second feature, 1933’s “Christopher Strong.”

Coppola will receive the honor at the Women in Film Los Angeles gala fundraiser, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of the nonprofit organization, on June 12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Actress Jenna Elfman is this year’s host.

Several other awards will be presented during the ceremony.

Laura Linney, currently starring in Showtime’s “The Big C: Hereafter,” will receive the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film, while Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, Jessica Pare and Kiernan Shipka of “Mad Men” will share the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television.

Hailee Steinfeld, who earned a supporting actress Oscar nomination for the Coen brothers’ 2010 western “True Grit,” will receive the 2013 Women in Film Max Mara Face of the Future honor.

Cinematographer Rachel Morrison, director of photography on the Sundance award-winning drama “Fruitvale Station,” is this year’s recipient of the Kodak Vision Award.

And “Star Wars” producer/director/writer George Lucas is set to receive the Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award, named after the a founding member of Women in Film, who was an entertainment attorney and first woman president of the Beverly Hills Bar Assn.

The Crystal Awards were established in 1977 to honor those who have helped to expand the role of women in entertainment. The Lucy Awards were founded in 1984 and named after the legendary actress/producer Lucille Ball. Presented in association with the Lucille Ball Estate, the awards are given to men and women who have worked to improve the perception of women through television.
