Taylor Swift’s ‘runway love fest’ at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Share

Taylor Swift: supermodel? Well, she definitely showed off those gams and singing chops during Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Alas, the country-pop crooner didn’t don the brand’s sultry signature lingerie for the annual décolletage display Wednesday.

Instead, the 23-year-old Grammy-winner rocked out with a bevy of models for the lingerie brand’s over-the-top presentation, arriving for the show in a floral-beaded mini-dress by Zuhair Murad.

The singer kicked off her performance in a kitschy, Union Jack-inspired ensemble -- a mini-dress, complete with train, top hat and matching Union Jack gladiator heels -- for the show’s British Invasion segment as she played along with the angels while they strutted their stuff and the brand’s skimpy show-stopping confections.

Ultra-fit and toned models Candice Swanepoel, Karlie Kloss, Behati Prinsloo Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Joan Smalls, Lily Aldridge and Cara Delevingne hit the glittering white runway for the 18th annual show, which took place at the Lexington Avenue Armory in Manhattan on Wednesday in advance of its televised special in December.

Swift tweeted along with her pretty compatriots throughout the experience.

“Tonight!! Insane! Glittery catwalk! IS THIS REAL LIFE @LilyAldridge @VictoriasSecret #VSFashionShow,” she wrote, sharing a photo of her walking hand-in-hand down the runway with Aldridge.

The 27-year-old model called the moment, in which they also gazed into each other’s eyes, a “runway love fest.”

Snow Angels, Shipwrecked, Parisian Nights, Pink Network and Birds of Paradise were among the night’s themes and the ubiquitous stilettos were provided by Nicholas Kirkwood and Sophia Webster. Cue the feathers, glitter and harnesses!

Swanepoel, a South African model, opened the show after being selected to don the lingerie brand’s $10-millon Royal Fantasy Bra designed by international jeweler Mouawad.

The garment, which also has its own belt, is adorned with 4,200 precious gems including rubies, diamonds and yellow sapphires hand set in an 18-carat gold setting. A 52-carat pear-shaped ruby also hangs from the middle of the bra.

“They had to mold my body to be able to make [the bra], and I was really excited,” Swanepoel said when the bra was unveiled in October. “I tried to imagine after they’d done the mold, how would they make it, how it would look. My imagination didn’t do it justice. My favorite part is this beautiful 52-carat pear-shaped ruby. Every part of it is exquisite.”

She dressed up (or down?) in additional designs including a silk velvet gown, a chantilly teddy during the show’s shipwrecked segment, and the brand’s Temptation bra for the Snow Angels collection, Us Weekly reported.

But Swanepoel didn’t let any of those looks define her. The 24-year-old donned a low-cut Alexandre Vauthier mini-dress at the show’s after-party at TAO Downtown in New York City. She was also seen smooching boyfriend Hermann Nicoli on the red carpet, E! reported.

After Swanepoel opened the show, Fall Out Boy took the stage along with model Delevingne as an English footballer and a punky Aldridge in a tartan plaid skirt that would never, ever pass as a school uniform, the Associated Press said. Other musical guests included Neon Jungle and A Great Big World.

Kloss, a Chicago native, donned the show’s finale garment -- a skintight, nude bedazzled bodysuit -- which she strutted down the catwalk to the tune of Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Swift donned a shimmering silver frock for that segment and fake snow fell from the rafters as she sang.

The short-haired Kloss was also transformed into a “Psychedelic Angel,” which saw her wearing brightly custom-painted wings, and the Victoria’s Secret Designer Collection Bra and Very Sexy Cheekini bottoms, Us Weekly reported.

“The Voice” mentor and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine sat in the audience to support his fiancee, Namibian model Behati Prinsloo, whom he proposed to in July. The singer and his band also happened to be the musical talent in 2011, and Levine escorted his then-lady love, model Anne Vyalitsyna, down the runway.

Prinsloo told Us Weekly that she hadn’t started planning their wedding yet but was gladly taking makeup tips from the artists backstage.

“I take tips. They do it and it looks amazing, but then I try it and I’m like, ‘What? Where did that go?’ ” she said. “I’m so bad with it. I can do eyeliner and mascara and that’s it.”

One noticeably absent model was Miranda Kerr, who recently announced her split from husband Orlando Bloom. The supermodel shared a photo of herself posing with Kroes and Ambrosio at last year’s shows.

“Sending love and best wishes to the #vsangels from Japan xxx,” wrote Kerr, who’s Angel status has been in question all year.

A one-hour special presentation of the event will air on CBS on Dec. 10.
