Deborah Madison, David Lebovitz and Martha Rose Shulman at book events this week

We’ve got a big week coming up for cookbook lovers. Three authors of terrific new books will be having signing events in Southern California.

Los Angeles’ own Martha Rose Shulman, author of more than 25 cookbooks and the longtime New York Times Recipes for Health columnist, will kick things off with a free event for two new books -- “The Simple Art of Vegetarian Cooking” and “The Art of French Pastry” cowritten with Jacquy Pfeiffer, who starred in the documentary “Kings of Pastry.” They’ll both be demonstrating recipes and signing books at Surfas in Culver City on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Popular blogger and cookbook author David Lebovitz hits town for a whirlwind tour Sunday to promote his new “My Paris Kitchen.” He’ll be doing a market walk and book signing at the Hollywood farmers market from 9 to 11 a.m. After that he’ll be in conversation with KCRW-FM “Good Food” host Evan Kleiman at the Santa Monica Williams-Sonoma from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Finally, he’ll be the guest at a special Sunday supper at Lucques, with four courses cooked from the book for $55 (books extra).

Legendary vegetarian cookbook author Deborah Madison will hit town April 29 for her extensive reworking of the massive “The New Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone.” She’ll be at Grand Central Market from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a book signing with treats supplied by Valerie Grand Central Market and wines from DomaineLA. The event is free, but space is limited; reserve by email.

Wednesday morning, Madison will join Cooks County chef Daniel Mattern for a tour of the Santa Monica farmers market and that evening she’ll join Mattern at the restaurant for a four-course meal of vegetarian dishes served family style.
