Twitter #Weekendeats highlights: Happy New Year

Share

It’s the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and during the last couple of weeks the Times Test Kitchen has been busy testing recipes for the story “Rosh Hashanah Feasts Center on Sweet Harvest.” Recipes include an apple date honey cake, sauteed apples and black-eyed peas with leeks and chard.

During our Monday morning #Weekendeats chat, some participants shared the dishes they made for the holiday. Here are the highlights:

Shulie Madnick of the blog Food Wanderings shared a recipe for her apple bourbon bundt cake. Madnick’s boozy version of a classic apple cake includes apples, cinnamon and bourbon syrup. She also offers a handy note to kosher folks.

Carol Sacks of the blog in medias recipe shared a picture of her homemade challah. Sacks noted that she had made the beautifully golden brown, braided loaf before the holiday.

Keeping with the sweet theme of the new year, Beth of the blog OMG YUMMY! prepared spice-poached apples and pears and raisin challah.

For more holiday recipes, check out these Rosh Hashanah recipes from The Times’ Test Kitchen. And if we’ve simply put you in the mood for a sweet treat, here are some dessert recipes.

After the chat, we ask people to upload pictures of their #Weekendeats to our What did you eat this weekend? photo gallery. We’ll feature some of the photos here on Daily Dish, so be sure to check back for more #Weekendeats and #foodporn throughout the week.

Hope to see everyone next Monday morning on Twitter! It’s sure to be a drool-worthy good time.
