Laura Sandoval had 13 kills and 11 digs for Garfield (3-1, 1-0) at Bell (0-1 in league).Julie Bracamontes added eight kills, 15 digs and three aces for Bulldogs, who trailed 8-2 in the first and third games, but rallied to win both times. Garfield middle blocker Sylvia Loza had seven kills.

Junior middle blocker Mary Laupepa had 20 kills, including 10 in the third game, for Carson (4-0, 1-0) over visiting San Pedro (3-1, 0-1). Melissa Moimoi had 13 kills and 15 digs and Roseanne Tejano finished with four aces for the Colts.

Lisette Argott had five kills and Sarah Hasenfus had 10 assists for Canoga Park, but the Hunters (2-2, 0-1) fell to Sun Valley Poly (2-2, 1-0) at Canoga Park.

Verdugo Hills d. Grant, 25-11, 25-11, 25-8
In an early matchup between last year’s first- and second-place teams, Verdugo Hills (5-3, 1-0) dominated defending champion Grant (3-1, 0-1) behind a team-leading 11 kills from Crystal Perryman at Verdugo Hills. Sara Bonet recorded seven kills and served seven aces while Jennifer Espindola had 19 assists and Heather Kelley added nine digs for the Dons.

WEST VALLEY LEAGUE

Chatsworth d. Granada Hills, 25-23, 25-16, 18-25, 25-17
Chelsea Duran led Chatsworth (3-1) with 16 kills and Kelsey Mellor and Lauren Cornell helped disrupt the Highlander offense with five blocks each in a league opener for both teams. Mellor also finished with 11 kills and Cornell added five kills.
