A man who barricaded himself in a South Los Angeles home this morning after allegedly shooting his 18-year-old girlfriend and her young son has killed himself after a four-hour standoff with police, authorities said.

Police who surrounded the house said they heard three gunshots coming from inside the house in the 600 block of Laconia Boulevard shortly after 1 p.m. They say they think he turned his gun on himself.

The man barricaded himself inside after his girlfriend and her 2-year-old son were shot in what police believe was a custody dispute. The mother and child were able to escape from the house, police said. Both were taken to a hospital, and the woman was undergoing surgery this afternoon, police said.

“The suspect goes over to the victim’s house, they start getting into some type of argument, he pulls out a gun and shoots the victim,” said Officer Kate Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police believe the boy also was injured, Lopez said, but no other details were immediately available.
