Earthquake: 4.0 quake strikes near Barstow

A shallow magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported Wednesday morning nine miles from Barstow, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 2:38 a.m. PDT at a depth of 1.2 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 11 miles from Barstow Heights, 37 miles from Apple Valley and 38 miles from Victorville.

In the past 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
