AQMD cites Santa Fe Springs treatment plant for foul odors

The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a violation notice to a waste water treatment plant in Santa Fe Springs on Monday after receiving more than 100 foul odor complaints from residents and businesses.

Air quality inspectors traced the problem to a waste water storage tank on the property of Ridgeline Energy Services USA, according to AQMD spokesman Sam Atwood. The facility, at 12345 Lakeland Road, collects and processes non-hazardous industrial waste water for treatment and discharge into the sewer.

The air pollution agency has issued four violations against the facility since June, Atwood said. Three of those violations were for odors causing public nuisance and one was for failing to obtain a permit from the agency for a piece of equipment that was in operation.

The agency has ordered the company to immediately fix the problem.

Atwood said air samples taken at the site are being analyzed.
