Girl, 14, shot dead on her bicycle in Compton is identified
Los Angeles County coroner officials have identified a 14-year-old girl who was killed in a gang-related shooting as she rode her bicycle.
Alisia Gomez, 14, of Compton, was discovered lying on the ground Saturday by deputies at the corner of Elm and Alameda streets, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies had responded to reports of gunshots when they found her, the department said.
Paramedics took Gomez to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses told investigators that Gomez was riding her bicycle when she was shot. The assailant fled the scene on foot, but authorities did not have a description of the suspect.
Investigators say the shooting is believed to be gang-related.
More than 200 people have been killed in Compton since January 2007, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Homicide Report.
