Sister of man killed by deputy in Cudahy disputes account
The family of a man shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in Cudahy is disuputing the official account of what happened.
A sheriff’s deputy pulled over Maria Arceo in the 4400 block of Elizabeth Street about 10 p.m. Saturday while her brother was in the passenger seat.
Police were looking for a person involved in a fight, in which witnesses reported seeing a gun. According to police, Arceo’s brother, Rigoberto Arceo, 34, got out of the car and walked up to the sheriff’s deputy and tried to take his gun. The officer shot Arceo, killing him.
A gun was found inside Arceo’s car, police said.
Maria Arceo told KTLA-TV Channel 5 that the shooting didn’t occur that way.
“He got out of the car with his hands in the air,” she said. “He didn’t do anything or wasn’t doing anthing he wasn’t supposed to do.”
Police were continuing to investigate.
