An armed man who was shot dead by police earlier in the week after a confrontation at his home was identified by Los Angeles County coroner officials as a 72-year-old from Granada Hills.

Robert Gillon was shot Monday night after threatening officers with a rifle following a brief standoff, police said.

LAPD officers were responding to reports of shots fired in the 12700 block of Woodley Avenue at 10:20 p.m. Gillon refused to leave his house when police arrived.

About an hour later, Gillon, armed with a rifle and a handgun, exited out a rear door and “threatened the officers with the rifle,” said Los Angeles police Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz.

Police shot Gillon; he was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt in the altercation.
