Power partially restored in Fairfax district; 1,400 still without

Share

A power outage affected 2,200 Fairfax-area customers overnight and into Monday morning, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said.

Power was restored to about 800 customers Monday morning, but as of 10 a.m., 1,400 were still without. Two sets of wires were down at two separate locations, according to the DWP.

DWP officials said the power outage was caused by Mylar balloons, which made contact with wires at Santa Monica Boulevard and Cole Street, blowing a conductor and causing wires to go down at a second location.

DWP estimated power would be restored from one location in one hour and from the second location in four hours.

The outage was reported about 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The outage affected an area bordered by Melrose Avenue to the north, Beverly Boulevard to the south, Martel Avenue to the east and Genesee Avenue to the west.
