Glendale man jumps in front of train and kills himself after slashing wife’s throat, police say
A Glendale man believed to have deliberately jumped in front of a moving train and killed himself Monday had slashed his estranged wife’s throat a day before, authorities say.
Glendale police had been looking for Henrik Manokian, 57, after identifying him as a suspect in the attack on his wife, according to Sgt. Robert William.
Manokian’s wife was found about 5:49 p.m. Sunday in the 3700 block of Mayfield Avenue in Glendale, he said in a statement.
The 50-year-old victim had a severe gash on her throat. She was taken to an area hospital, where she is recovering.
Detectives worked through the night to find Manokian, who had been living out of his vehicle, William said.
Then on Monday, police received reports that a man had been struck by a train near the intersection of San Fernando Road and Doran Street. The man was late identified as Manokian, he said.
Moments before Manokian jumped in front of the train, he told a passerby that “he wanted to end his life,” William said.
The passerby notified a nearby business to call police.
But as the Amtrak train approached the intersection, the man ran onto the tracks and was struck, police said.
