Inglewood police officer shot: Hostage, gunfire ‘barrage’ reported
A woman who lives across the street from the site of an Inglewood police shooting said her neighbor was being held hostage by a gunman.
Kimberly Edwards told KTLA News that her neighbor’s brother told police officers to “please get my sister out of the house.”
A couple of minutes later, Edwards said, she heard a barrage of gunfire. She said she saw a female police officer wounded, then “walking and staggering” before being carried away by another officer.
After shooting at the police, the gunman “was still shooting ... from the home,” Edwards said.
Inglewood police initially reported that two officers had been wounded. They later said they believe only one officer was shot. The officer’s condition is not known.
“I’m still terrified; I’m in shock,” Edwards told KTLA News. “We’re working people and we’re not used to this kind of thing.”
Dozens of law enforcement officers have descended on the scene from various agencies.
