LAPD officer remains in critical condition; blood drive planned
Officials will host a blood drive Monday in honor of a Los Angeles police officer who was critically injured in a car crash over the weekend while on his motorcycle.
The drive will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills.
The motorcycle officer — a 26-year veteran whose identity has not been released — was stopped at a traffic light at Lankershim Boulevard and Saticoy Street in North Hollywood about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when he was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver and pinned between the vehicle and the car in front of him.
The officer has undergone several surgeries and has another one planned for Monday, officials said. He remains in a medically induced coma, according to CBS Los Angeles.
The driver accused of hitting the officer, 33-year-old Qaneak Cobb of Pacoima, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of drugs. She is being held in lieu of $185,000 bail.
