Man shot, fires set as Giants fans celebrate World Series victory

A man was shot in the arm, fires were set and bottles were thrown at police officers late Wednesday as revelers celebrated the San Francisco Giants winning the World Series, authorities said.
Shortly after the game a man was shot in the Mission District, at 21st and Valencia streets, said San Francisco police Officer Gordon Shyy. The bullet hit his arm and he sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect was at-large and there was no description available.
Some people started bonfires with debris in the Mission District, Shyy said. Most of the flames were extinguished by firefighters and police officers.
“There’s a few more that were set that we’re still working on,” Shyy said.
TV news footage showed officers in riot gear deployed in the Mission District, as crowds took to the streets. After officers moved people out of the Mission District, fans moved to 24th Street and started dancing.
On Market Street, fans were throwing bottles at officers, Shyy said. It’s unknown whether any of them were injured. There have been some arrests but Shyy did not have an official tally.
