Off-duty police officer killed in 91 Freeway crash
An off-duty San Bernardino police officer was killed in morning traffic Thursday when the motorcycle he was riding crashed on the 91 Freeway outside Corona.
The fatal crashed occurred at 9:06 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the 91, east of the 15 Freeway.
Multiple calls to the San Bernardino Police Department and the California Highway Patrol were not returned.
But CHP Officer Johnnie Russell told KTLA-TV the off-duty officer was traveling on the freeway when he crashed into the center divider. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Police Lt. Richard Lawhead told the station that the officer had been with the department for seven to eight years and was currently a motor officer.
A SigAlert issued earlier in the morning was set to be lifted around 1:30 p.m.
