Police investigate possible murder-suicide at Ontario apartments

Ontario police officers investigating what they thought was an in-progress burglary Thursday instead found two bodies, possibly the result of a murder-suicide, authorities said.

Upon arriving about 5 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 900 block of North Duesenberg Drive, officers found a door that appeared to have been forced open on the second floor.

They then received a report that a male gunshot victim was lying on the third floor. The victim was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Ontario police.

When officers checked the second-floor apartment, they found the second victim, who appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was identified only as a 56-year-old male from Ontario who lived in the apartment on the third floor, where the first victim was found.

The identity of the first victim was not immediately released pending notification of family members.

Detectives believe the second victim shot and killed the first victim on the third floor, then broke into the second-floor apartment — the location of the possible burglary — and shot himself.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Troy Scutella at (909) 395-2745.
