Two motorcyclists died Sunday after they crashed in a San Francisco neighborhood as they fled from gunfire, authorities said.
Officer Gordon Shyy, a spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department, said the victims encountered gunshots in the 1400 block of La Salle Avenue in the Bayview District about 5 p.m. They attempted to leave the area and crashed.
The motorcyclists suffered severe injuries from the crash and at least one of them sustained a gunshot wound. They were taken to a hospital where they succumbed to their injuries, Shyy said.
The cause of death for the two victims hasn’t been determined, Shyy said, pending autopsies.
“There isn’t much as far as suspect information,” Shyy said.
Homicide detectives are looking into whether the motorcyclists were targeted.
