Motorist killed in Sepulveda Pass pileup identified as Long Beach man
A driver killed in a multicar pileup on the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass on Friday morning has been identified as a 63-year-old father from Long Beach.
Craig Andrews died Friday in a chain-reaction crash in the northbound lanes near Mulholland Drive about 6:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Coroner.
Andrews’ 19-year-old daughter was riding with him in a Ford Mustang when the crash occurred, KNBC-TV reported. His daughter was among those hospitalized with survivable injuries.
The accident occurred at the same time that authorities were clearing a vehicle fire in the southbound lanes. The two incidents closed several lanes of the freeway through Friday morning’s commmute.
An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, authorities said. At least three vehicles were involved in the crash, the California Highway Patrol said.
