Sheriff’s Department employee accused of sneaking drugs into jail
A civilian employee of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was arrested on suspicion of sneaking drugs into the Pitchess Detention Center, authorities said Tuesday.
Juan Ortiz, 55, a laundry supervisor at the Castaic jail complex, was apprehended early Tuesday after an investigation was launched by the department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau, authorities said in a statement.
Ortiz had been a Sheriff’s Department employee for 13 years. He resigned after he was arrested.
He was taken to the Santa Clarita sheriff’s station and was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
