They’re probably all likely to be seen, en masse, on the streets of West Hollywood on Saturday for the annual Halloween Carnaval. And so, the city announced Monday, there will be several streets closed throughout the weekend.

Major closures include Santa Monica Boulevard, which will be closed between North Doheny Drive and Croft Avenue from noon Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. San Vicente Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue will be closed from 12 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday. Additional street closures can be found at the West Hollywood website.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected for the Santa Monica Boulevard-based event, which will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Halloween Carnaval, now in its 27th year, will be paying tribute to the 40th anniversary of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” by naming actor Tim Curry as West Hollywood’s honorary mayor.

“West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnaval is one of the most exciting events of the year,” Mayor Lindsey Horvath said in a statement. “There will be wonderful performances and entertainment — and, of course, people who come out and celebrate Halloween in West Hollywood never hold back on elaborate costumes.”

The city will suspend permit parking restrictions from 11 a.m. Saturday to noon Sunday, and paid public parking will be available at lots throughout the city.

West Hollywood officials are encouraging attendees to carpool or use public transportation. The city will be running its free, bright-yellow shuttle — called the PickUp —which will have a special route.

Clean-up crews, as always, will go to work immediately after the event, according to the city. Santa Monica Boulevard sidewalks will be steam-cleaned, the city assured. It’s an operation that involves 10 city staff members, 30 workers with a local recovery program and seven street-sweep vehicles, according to the city.

There will be about 1,000 No Parking signs placed around the event zone this year for safety purposes and to control access to the event, the city said.

The city’s WeHo TV will broadcast the Halloween Carnaval on YouTube.

But because the event will involve various levels of undress and various definitions of, err, holiday spirit, the city says viewer discretion is advised.
